Following the success of the firsts editions in September 2014 and 2015 which attracted 2,500 participants, this event is tipped to become Europe’s alternative to Ironman Kona. The date for the 2016 edition has been set for Saturday, 24th September. The distances have already been announced: 3.8 km swim – 180 km bike and 42.2 km run. This event has a clearly international flavour: during the first edition the UK was the country with the largest representation, followed by Spain and Germany.
The swim takes place at Alcúdia beach, where the triathletes can enjoy the calm transparent waters and excellent signage thanks to the market buoys positioned approximately every 100 metres. The course is fast and entertaining for spectators as halfway along the circuit the swimmers come out of the water, enabling them to check on the progress of their friends and relatives. The bike race takes place on a single lap circuit with 2 loops and several slopes at the start as it makes its way through the municipalities of Manacor, Petra, Santa Margalida, Can Picafort and Sa Pobla, whilst the second part is similar to the Ironman Mallorca 70.3, taking participants through Alcúdia, Puerto de Pollença, Pollença, Lluc, Caimari, Campanet, Muro and Sa Pobla, before reaching the T2 in Puerto de Alcúdia. The marathon is run over completely flat terrain, with four laps on a circuit that combines stretches along the beach promenade, tarmac and the stunning stretch through the harbour. An event that is undoubtedly set to become one of the most important in the world.
