Trail Running has enjoyed a dramatic rise in popularity on the island over the last few years. Improvements have been made to the signposts and numerous extremely well-organised events now take place over a range of distances, resulting in a highly attractive calendar of trials, particularly in spring.
The conditions are ideal for this activity, with mild temperatures throughout spring, autumn and winter. Fans of this sport can take advantage of the wide variety of terrains, set against a stunning backdrop of sea and mountains in an idyllic natural environment. Within the space of just a few kilometres, visitors can enjoy countless excursions around the Llevant Park or the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Viva Blue Hotel offers superb additional services and facilities including running routes, a fully-equipped fitness room with apparatus for muscle-building, cardio workouts, free weights and stretching and core zones, as well as a buffet created specifically for sports men and women, a spa and physiotherapy service.
Highlights of the many sports events organised on the island include the Serra de Tramuntana Ultra Trail, with distances ranging from 42 to 108 km and the Calviá K42, which includes half marathon and mountain marathon distances.
